Week 36 of 40

Almost Full Term

This week your baby is about the size of

Romaine lettuce

18.7 in ยท 5.8 lb

Your Baby This Week

Your baby is shedding lanugo and vernix, which they will swallow and process into meconium (their first bowel movement). Gums are firm. Circulation and immune systems are ready. Baby gains about an ounce a day.

Your Body This Week

Prenatal visits are now weekly. Braxton Hicks can be frequent and stronger. You may feel heavy and tired. Some women experience the 'bloody show' (mucus plug) starting now.

Good to Do Now

Know the difference between Braxton Hicks and labor. Real contractions are regular, get closer together, and do not stop when you change position.

Line up your after care now: a lactation consultant and a postpartum doula are the two calls new parents are gladdest they made early.
