Your Baby This Week
A waxy coating called vernix caseosa covers the skin to protect it from the amniotic fluid. Sensory development is exploding: brain areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch are developing.
Your Body This Week
Hip pain or pelvic discomfort as ligaments loosen. You may feel a sharp pain on one side (round ligament). Heartburn and indigestion may increase.
Good to Do Now
Practice good posture to reduce back pain. Sleep with a pillow between your knees. Stay active but listen to your body when it needs rest.

The second trimester is prime time to meet birth doulas. Interview two or three while calendars are still open.
