Common Questions

When should I start changing my diet before trying to conceive?

Ideally 3 to 6 months before you start trying. It takes about 100 days for an egg to fully mature, so the food you eat today influences the egg you ovulate three months from now. Starting early gives your body time to build nutrient stores and reduce inflammation.

What is the Egg Quality Diet?

The Egg Quality Diet is a fertility nutrition approach focused on reducing inflammation and supporting egg health through nutrient-dense whole foods. It emphasizes pasture-raised proteins, bone broth, healthy fats, cooked vegetables, and organ meats while removing common inflammatory triggers like gluten, soy, and processed sugar.

What supplements should I take when trying to conceive?

At minimum, start a prenatal with methylfolate (not folic acid), fish oil or cod liver oil, CoQ10 for egg quality, and vitamin D. Choline, magnesium, and a probiotic are also widely recommended. For men, zinc, CoQ10, folate, and omega-3s support sperm health. Always consult your healthcare provider before starting supplements.

How much protein do I need during pregnancy?

It depends on the trimester. Most experts suggest roughly 75 to 100g of protein per day early in pregnancy, rising to 100 to 120g in the third trimester as your baby's growth speeds up. Our plans err toward the higher end of each range, since protein is the nutrient most people fall short on. During TTC, aim for 80 to 100g to support hormone balance and egg quality.

Should my partner change their diet too?

Yes. Sperm health is very responsive to nutrition and lifestyle changes, and improvements show up within 3 to 4 months. A diet rich in zinc, antioxidants, and omega-3 fatty acids supports sperm count, motility, and DNA quality. Our TTC supplements tab includes a dedicated section for him.

Can I follow these meal plans if I have dietary restrictions?

Yes. Each meal is tagged with dietary information (dairy-free, vegetarian, gluten-free). The TTC plan is naturally gluten-free and largely dairy-free, aligned with the Egg Quality Diet approach. Use the filter to highlight meals that match your needs.
